about

The Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium is held at the University of Oregon in Eugene, OR. Performances were recorded in the Aasen-Hull Hall.

As an attending performer, I was able to participate in numerous chamber ensembles collaborating and engaging in new works, many of which to be performed for the first time.

- The Intercultural Composition Concert premiered the music of attendants and visiting composers of Sinakhoe (Korean Society for New Music). The music was performed by featured Korean artists and the Oregon Wind Quartet (including Molly Barth, Wonkak Kim, & Steve Vacchi), blending traditional instruments and Western classical ensembles.
- Performer Showcases included esteemed artists such as Molly Barth, Nancy Ives, James Shields, & Lisa Moore.
- The American Creator's Ensemble is comprised of fellow composers and musicians performing new and premiering works.
- Wild Night Concerts featured new music at 10pm with selections of improvised and experimental pieces.

My sincerest gratitude goes out to Dr. Robert Kyr, Director of OBFCS. The immense effort to bring all these creative minds together is astonishing. For myself, the opportunities to work with so many incredible artists was more than I could have expected from a summer program, and I know I will move on from this festival a better cellist and collaborator.
During the Symposium Plus, Philip Glass encouraged us to work with new people and shared that his collaborations were the most essential experiences he has had as an artist. There are many talented composers, conductors, performers, coordinators whom I have had the pleasure of meeting during my time at OBFCS. Going forward, I hope we all continue to find "creation in the unknown" together.
