Four Scenes from the West (Tao Li)

about

{ World Premiere }

Composed by Tao Li for the Intercultural Composition Concert at the Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium, on July 3rd, 2018 in the Aasen-Hull Hall.

This concert featured artists of Sinakhoe (Society for New Korean Music) and the Oregon Wind Quintet (including Molly Barth, Wonkak Kim, & Steve Vacchi) in a collaboration of traditional Korean instruments and Western classical ensembles.

There are many qualities of the Korean aesthetic employed in "Four Scenes" - various vibrato techniques, like the traditional instruments use to embellish their melodies; accelerating tempos; and punctuated percussive techniques.
