II. Drowning Shore

The Performer's Showcase for the Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium was on July 4th, 2018, in the Aasen-Hull Hall, highlighting the talents of cellist, Nancy Ives. (nancyives.com)

Nancy is the principal cellist of the Oregon Symphony and has extensive experience in contemporary ensembles, new music programs, recorded works, and composition.

The first half of program was dedicated to different Allemande movements of the Bach Solo Cello Suites and their contemporary counterparts - integrating jazz standards, expanded harmonies, or singing while playing.

Without intermission, the second half of the program included Nancy, myself, and members of Sound of Late. "the Sea" provided me the incredible opportunity to work with someone as prolific as Nancy, in preparing a rich cello duo. For my first time playing with fixed media, "counting carefully" in was an understatement, but produced a unique auditory effect I'd like to explore more of.
